Nomad welcomes extension flips between you and the facility of your choice.
What is an extension flip?
An extension flip allows other agency travelers to extend an assignment at their current facility with Nomad as their new employer. Extension flips must occur after the established end date of your current assignment.
What isn’t an extension flip?
An example of a situation we could not consider an extension flip would be as follows:
- You receive a rate decrease mid-contract with your current agency. You are unhappy with this decrease and want to switch to a different agency but stay at your current facility. Because you are mid-contract with a separate agency, we would not be able to take you on with us at Nomad Health as a clinician.
Please note: You do not have to wait until the end of your contract to contact us regarding an extension flip. If you receive an extension offer from your facility and would like to get the ball rolling before your contract ends, we’re happy to begin the extension flip process!
Starting the Process
During your first contact with us about extending with Nomad, your Navigator will provide you with a series of questions about your current contract.
These questions are as follows:
1. Have you received an extension offer yet, and have you signed it?
2. What is the name of the facility you want to extend through?
3. What were your original contract dates?
4. What are your start and ending extension dates?
5. Which unit/specialty do you want to extend with?
6. What shift type & shift schedule are you working?
7. Do you have any RTO?
8. What is your desired blended hourly rate?
9. What is the name of the Unit Manager who asked you to renew your contract (if an offer has been extended)?
10. Any other agreed-upon terms?
The more information you can provide when answering these questions, the better.
Sharing as many details as possible—like if you have block scheduling, what unit you're on, or if you have already received an extension—will allow us to process your request quicker, and ensure that your new contract meets your needs and expectations.
Timeline for approval
The timeline to receive and approve extension flips varies by facility. At most, the approval process can take up to a week. We will keep you updated through it all so you are never left wondering where you are in the process.
After approval and the Right to Represent
Once your extension has been approved, the next stage includes completing the Right to Represent, signing and approving an offer, and beginning the compliance stage.
What is the Right to Represent?
When moving forward with your extension flip, we will request you provide us with the following statement in writing that grants us the right to represent you:
- “DATE - I, NAME, confirm that I would no longer like to take this position through AGENCY A and would prefer to move forward working with Nomad Health.’
Once you document that we have the right to represent you, we’ll be able to send you the offer from the facility and accept your completed offer agreement.
Will Nomad Health’s rates be higher than my previous agency?
Many healthcare professionals who started with Nomad Health through an extension flip left their previous agencies due to unsatisfactory rates. Although we cannot ensure that you will receive a higher rate, we do offer highly competitive rates.
In the spirit of transparency, we list the full rate breakdown on each job posting on our site. We also ensure that our travelers receive a full travel stipend if they qualify.
F.A.Q’s
How will I know if my extension flip will be approved?
The moment you connect with one of our Navigators to inquire about extending with us instead of your previous agency, our Navigators will request the name of the facility you’re extending with.
Once you provide this information, the Navigator you have been working with will confirm that the facility allows extension flips.
If this is approved (it usually is), we will then begin the process. If the facility does not accept extension flips, we will immediately let you know.
Should I inform my current facility?
One way to ensure things move as efficiently and smoothly as possible is to inform your manager ahead of time that you would like to extend with a separate agency so they can expect us.
Once we confirm with you that an extension is possible, we will provide you with a series of questions and also reach out to the manager of your current unit.
How do I cut ties with my previous agency?
Before you move forward with us at Nomad Health, review your current agency's policies to avoid any complications when extending with Nomad Health.
Completing your Nomad Health profile
On our platform, we don’t ask for a resume; instead, we request applicants to create a Nomad Health profile where candidates can enter their work history, credentials, and education. A complete profile ensures we have all of the necessary information correctly formatted and ready to submit to the facility as quickly as possible.
Fill out the information requested in your profile if you haven’t already.
This will include sections for:
- Basic information about yourself
- Active licenses and certifications
- BLS is required for most, if not all, of the positions on Nomad Health
- Work History
- Must include the last seven years or since your nursing graduation date
- References
- At least two direct supervisory references that you have worked with in the past 24 months
- Availability
- Start date and requested time off
Having a complete profile will help make the extension flip process easier, and will allow you to apply for future positions with us once your extension has been completed!
